Careers at KES

We are known as a family business. For us, that means creating a workplace environment where our team feel valued, connected and they flourish. The success of our business relies on our team’s creativity and knowledge to solve the bespoke problems of our clients. Despite how cheesy it is, there is truth in the saying, teamwork makes the dream work.
What do we do?
We work across many types of industries, from construction and engineering to festivals and the entertainment industry. Our products often pop up in the most unusual locations, like film and TV sets, dockyards and even with Formula 1 teams.
Since we cater to a diverse and dynamic range of customers, our team covers a wide range of skilled roles. Here are just a few:
Job Roles at KES
CAD Designer - Computer Aided Design is a modern industry solution for product design. We use CAD design to create our bespoke designs and tailor them to a solution or space.
We can produce our digitally created designs in 2D or 3D models. We do this to share, review, simulate and modify designs. They're pretty cool if we do say so!
CNC Machine Operators - Computer Numerical Control Machine Operators use and monitor our machines to check their safety and accurately produce parts for our products. Our CNC operators cut, sculpt and finish our bespoke high-quality parts and materials that we proudly put our name to. Our operators play an important part in quality control.
Metal Fabricator - Metal fabrication is an important weapon in our arsenal and something that sets KES apart. We create custom metalwork solutions from stairs to secure storage units. All are made by cutting, bending and assembling metal materials from raw materials.
Our metal fabricators work with plate metal, expanded metal, welding wire, rods and cast metal. Metal fabrication is a sought-after skill. Our team at KES are highly talented; check out some of their work here.
Electrical Engineer - Our electrical engineers help design, develop and build our electrical products, particularly our acclaimed custom distros.
Here for a good time and a long time.
Typically our team at KES stay with us for a long time. So, we asked two of our longest-serving team members, “Why have you worked at KES for so long?”
Sue Shepherd has been with us since 1993. She started with part-time festoon light making, progressing to full-time production. She now knows the whole range of KES-manufactured products (excluding metalwork items).
“I enjoy working at KES and the family working environment, and I enjoy making and fitting products. KES has always fitted in well with my family commitments over the years”
Mark Whalley started working in our factory in 1989 as a general labourer. He has progressed to make distribution and control panels. In more recent years, he has moved into our offices as part of our sales team, then progressing to our sales director.
“I enjoy the family working environment, and now in sales, I get to use the skills I gained from building the products with my own hands in the factory directly with our clients who I have spend years building relationships with.”
Sue and Mark have an encyclopedic insight and technical knowledge of KES and our products. They’re not alone, either. Many of the team have grown and developed with the company.
Apprenticeships at KES
Developing future talent is important to us at KES. As part of a skilled industry, we often take both mechanical and electronic engineer apprentices. Our two major success stories are Louis and Spencer.
Louis started with us as a Mechanical Engineering Apprentice, progressing to Technical Lead Engineer. Whilst Spencer started with us as an Electrical Engineering Apprentice and has progressed to Lead Electrical Engineer.
